ABOUT SEA STONE JEWELLERY

Hello! I'm Joanna and I am the artist and metalsmith behind Sea Stone Jewellery.

I have been collecting sea glass for over 20  years, becoming slightly obsessed with researching the history and folklore that surrounds sea glass.  I love sea glass because each piece holds a story behind it.  As a raw product sea glass has lots of history within it, from the discarded 1880s Codd marble bottles, 1500s black 'pirate' sea glass, Victorian Opalescent sea glass, to the very famous Seaham coloured glass, the list goes on and on.   Sea glass also represents the beaches and coves it is collected from.  Many customers buy my jewellery as way of remembering a special beach, holiday or precious moment they had by the Sea, its a wonderful way to treasure these memories and I adore making these memories tangible. 

Each piece is unique and as each piece of genuine sea glass is, essentially recycled discarded glass, each piece is also sustainable.  Sustainability features heavily in my business ethics, there is already so much stuff in the world, my creations focus of recycling and reusing existing products to create something new.  All my silver and gold is recycled and sourced from reputable UK suppliers and any gemstones are either recycled from second hand jewellery or ethically sourced.  I am passionate that the world doesn't need more "things" and we can recreate and reengineer "new" out of old.  I absolutely love this type of project and I have a special section about custom orders on my website, you can pop over and check that out.  Why buy new, when you may have a few of Grandma's rings just sitting in a drawer?  

I am really passionate that my designs incorporate texture, movement and are inspired by the area in which I spend most of my time, on the North East Coast.   I build my ideas from the natural forms and features of the sea, in all its many moods and guises.  Each unique design is often a one off creation, lovingly crafted, that is a joy to give or to wear.

As an artisan Jeweler I firmly believe that every piece of jewellery should have a meaning and a story behind it.  A well-chosen piece of jewellery has the potential to completely transform and elevate an outfit.  Jewellery makes a statement about your personality, values, beliefs and also has the power to tell a story.  
 
Sea Stone Jewellery is the exclusive sector of my established sea glass jewellery business, Sea Stone by Joanna on Etsy.  I have been trading on Etsy since 2017, where you will see the wonderful reviews of my many customers from all across the world.  With Sea Stone Jewellery I have developed my artisan range featuring the very best designs, using my rarest and most beautiful pieces of sea glass combined with the finest metals.  I work only in fine precious metals to produce quality handmade jewellery.  All my materials are ethically sourced and fair-trade.  I avoid the use of plastics and animal products in all my materials and packaging, its important to me that my business is Vegan Friendly, Plastic Free and as kind to the environment as possible.  
 
As per the legal requirements of the London Assay Office, jewellery is hallmarked where applicable
