ABOUT SEA STONE JEWELLERY

Hello! I'm Joanna and I am the artist and metalsmith behind Sea Stone Jewellery.

I love everything about the sea and being able to fuse my love of precious metals with my love for the ocean is a dream.  I have been creating pieces of jewellery for nearly 10 years, working exclusively in fine precious metals that incorporate sea glass and only ethically sourced gemstones.  My designs incorporate texture, movement and are inspired the dramatic North East Coast.   I build my ideas from the natural forms and features of the sea, in all its many moods and guises.  All my pieces focus heavily on being individually and organically created by hand, slowly and intentionally. 

Collecting sea glass has been a passion for over 20  years, researching the history and folklore that surrounds sea glass.   As a raw product sea glass has lots of history, from the discarded 1880s Codd marble bottles, 1500s black 'pirate' sea glass thought to have been on the Spanish Armada, to the very famous Seaham coloured glass.   Sea glass also represents the beaches and coves it is collected from.  Many customers buy my jewellery as way of remembering a special beach, holiday or precious moment they had by the Sea, its a wonderful way to treasure these memories and I adore making these memories tangible. 

Sustainability features heavily in my ethics, my creations focus on recycling and reusing existing products to create something new.  All my silver and gold is recycled and sourced from reputable UK suppliers and any gemstones are either recycled from second hand jewellery or ethically sourced.  I am passionate to recreate and reengineer "new" out of old.  I absolutely love this type of project and I have a special section about custom orders on my website.  Why not save Grandma's rings from just sitting in a drawer, gathering dust and use all that lovely sparkle to create something new.

WORKSHOPS *new in 2025

Since, 2025 I have started to run workshops, helping others create beautiful pieces of silver jewellery or their own sandcast wedding rings.  The jewellery making workshops are a great gift for the person who enjoys an experience and even better to do together!  I offer a bridal party workshop where you can enjoy making a gorgeous piece of silver jewellery to remember the special day...or to get the bridesmaids to make their own gift! I run my Workshops in my studio in Saltburn by the Sea, North Yorkshire.
